I recently attended "The 7 key trends that will impact your strategic planning", by the Gartner group.
They discuss and provide guidance on what they call the "The Future Tapestry". The Tapestry's three elements are Anticipate, Advocate and Accelerate.
Anticipate is to have the mind set and be ready to address the "what if" scenario for the future of your organization (industry, geography, globally). Once you understand the trends through the "what if" scenarios then what are you going to Advocate for? This will help you to assess the opportunities and the risks, choose the one that has the largest impact for your organization. And finally Accelerate, how are you going to future test the strategy you are advocating for, and what are you going to do today to pivot and innovate.
